How to prepare my sprinkler system before its blowout?
Turn Off The Water Supply or Pump
For traditional systems, turn off the water supply to prevent any accident flow. If you have a lake pump, make sure it's powered down before the technician arrives.
Shut Down The Controller
Set your irrigation controller to "off" or "rain mode" to stop any automatic activation during winterization.
Clear Access To Components
Make sure that the technician can easily access the main shut-off valve, backflow preventer, or lake pump area. Trim plants or remove obstacles if needed.
Inspect The System
Check for visible damage to sprinkler heads, pipes, or pumps. Inform the technician of any issues in advance.

*Here’s how our Damage Free Spring Guarantee works. At the conclusion of your WinterProof service, your RainCheck technician will “tag out” your system. This will indicate that it’s been thoroughly prepared for winter and locks it out from further activity that may undo the winterization process.
When your technician returns for Spring startup, they will “untag” your system. If the system is “untagged” at any time between the two visits, the Guarantee is void.
If, during the Spring startup process, it is determined that damage due to freezing pipes, valves, and other components has stemmed from a less-than-perfect winterization process, RainCheck will repair said damage at no charge to you.
The Guarantee excludes damage to sprinkler heads caused by vehicles, equipment, snow plows, etc.
Winterization in lawn irrigation is an essential process that safeguards the system from the harsh effects of freezing temperatures. As the growing season ends, it's important to prepare the irrigation system to withstand winter conditions and prevent damage. This process typically begins with shutting off the main water supply to the system, followed by draining all water from the pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads to avoid ice buildup, which can lead to cracks and leaks. The blow-out method, where compressed air is used to force water out of the system, is commonly employed for thorough drainage. Additionally, any above-ground components, such as hoses and backflow preventers, should be removed or insulated to protect against frost. Controllers and timers should be reset or turned off to prevent unnecessary activation. Proper winterization not only prevents costly repairs and replacements due to freeze damage but also ensures that the system is ready for a smooth start when the growing season resumes. By investing in winterization, homeowners can extend the life of their irrigation system, maintain its efficiency, and ensure a lush, healthy lawn when spring returns.
Furthermore, routine lawn irrigation maintenance throughout the year can complement winterization efforts, ensuring that your system is in top condition and prepared for any seasonal changes
